ONCE AGAIN, I AM BEHIND ON UPDATES

It’s been a pretty crazy time over here in Brandon-land. Since my last update, I’ve made appearances at the Highlander Worldwide convention in L.A., and the Spokane Comic-Con here in Washington. I’ve also been hard at work writing a few different as-yet-unannounced Secret Projects. Oh, and did I mention that Eric Trautmann and I launched a preview of our new free online comic series, WIDE AWAKE?

Like I said: crazy times. “Be careful what you wish for,” isn’t that how the saying goes? I’m here to tell you that it’s true, folks…and I’m loving every minute of it!

JERWA ON TWITTER AND A "WIDE AWAKE" PREVIEW!

First up, follow me on Twitter:

http://twitter.com/jerwa

And here's a "Wide Awake" teaser image!

As we prepare for the launch of the WIDE AWAKE webcomic, I'll be sharing various production and promotional art pieces. This particular image is from regular series artist Mirco Pierfederici and features our lead character Amanda Carter in a tastefully vulnerable state. May be NSFW for mild artistic nudity.

(The webcomic will be PG-13 most of the time, FYI.)

20 QUESTIONS AT COMICS SPOTLIGHT
http://comicsspotlight.blogspot.com/2009/03/20-questions-with-brandon-jerwa.html

This fantastically in-depth interview is very different from the press I've been doing of late. You won't catch me talking about how awesome my book-of-the-week is, but you might just gain some insight into who I am and where I come from. If you're into that...

WonderCon '09: John Layman on Debuting 'Chew'

By Matt Brady
posted: 27 February 2009 06:16 pm ET

Readers who’ve followed the writing career of John Layman are used to his creator-owned ideas being kind of...out there.

While the corporate mascot gone very, very wrong story of Puffed and Stay Puffed went into their own land of...different, this June, Layman, with artist Rob Guillory are looking to move the goalpost a little further with Chew, a police procedural starring a “quirky” investigator that makes Monk’s Adrian Monk look just as normal as anyone you’d pass on the street.

We’d best let Layman take it from here, as we’re not well-acquainted with the legalities and liabilities of this kind of story and who can be held responsible for what.

New interview at www.generalsjoes.com

Justin Bell is one of a handful of truly active and loyal G.I. Joe fans who take on the serious responsibility of maintaining an insightful web presence for the fans at www.generalsjoes.com – offering toy reviews, editorial articles and much more.

He surprised me recently with a really in-depth set of interview questions, resulting in what may just be my longest interview ever. We discuss my feelings on G.I. Joe in its many forms - comics, toys and movies; past, present and future - and touch on some non-Joe topics as well.

n645774735_870124_6016

Joe Rybandt (seen here with his two “life partners”) is my editor at Dynamite, and literally one of my favorite people on the planet. If I never write another book for them again as long as I live, I'll be content in the knowledge that I :

1) worked with a great editor who valued and respected my work;

and

2) made a friend for life.

This interview offers some insight into the man, the myth, the miracle...that is...JOE RYBANDT. Check it out.

Andrew Modeen (seen here, shaken but not stirred) was a HUGE help to me in preparing HIGHLANDER ORIGINS: THE KURGAN - he gathered existing media for reference, helped me reconcile timelines throughout history and was a fantastic devil's advocate as things were coming together.

Jen Contino of THE PULSE talks to him about the project, his love of Highlander and his own creative ambitions. Check it out, too!

Another new interview about HIGHLANDER ORIGINS: THE KURGAN.

kurgan This one actually features preview pages! Enjoy!

IMMORTAL BATTLE W/HIGHLANDERS KURGAN

Brandon Jerwa has carved out quite a place for himself in the Highlander universe. The scribe has penned several tales featuring Connor MacLeod and clan. Now, he's teamed with uber fan Andrew Modeen to chronicle the history of the villainous Kurgan in Highlander Origins: The Kurgan, a two-part miniseries from Dynamite Entertainment. Jerwa told THE PULSE Kurgan is " ... all impulse, like Id gone wild. If he wants it, he takes it, and God help you if you get in his way."

Talking ‘Highlander Origins’ With Brandon Jerwa - The Kurgan Gets The Spotlight

When Joseph Dilworth of Pop Culture Zoo conducted a podcast interview with me at Emerald City Comic-Con earlier this year, he made me promise that we'd get together and discuss HIGHLANDER ORIGINS: THE KURGAN when the opportunity presented itself. And here we are!

Pop Culture Zoo - full frontal nerdity | Talking ‘Highlander Origins’ With Brandon Jerwa - The Kurgan Gets The Spotlight

Having been let down by a number of sub-par film sequels, I was cautiously optimistic when Dynamite Entertainment announced back in 2006 that they were producing a comic book based on the Highlander franchise. I soon learned that the series was in the very capable hands of writer Brandon Jerwa. Over thirteen issues, Jerwa gave us some great adventures in the finest Highlander tradition, deftly adding to the mythos without resorting to Zeist-ian retcons (long-time fans will cringe at that reference). Now, Jerwa returns to the Highlander universe with a two-issue mini-series that explores the history of the evil immortal from the original film, the Kurgan. We talked with Jerwa at the 2008 Emerald City ComiCon and he briefly mentioned this mini. This week he agreed to go into a little more detail about the comic.

Ep. 214 - Unscrewed and The Army of Darkness

ep214 My best pal and co-writer Elliott Serrano is a guest panelist on the Around Comics podcast this week, where he discusses XENA / ARMY OF DARKNESS: WHAT, AGAIN?! and shares the story of how we met at Dragon*Con in Atlanta. It's a tale of swords, chainsaws and true bromance...

Ep. 214 - Unscrewed and The Army of Darkness

Around Comics welcomes Tom Stillwell and Elliot Serrano to the panel this week. Tom is the owner and operator of Spinner Rack Comics, a comics company dedicated to all ages and kid friendly comics. He is also the President of Unscrewed, an organization that helps educate and protect creators from fraudulent practices in the comics industry. Elliot is the writer of It's Geek to Me, an article in the Chicago Tribune's Red Eye newspaper. He is also bringing you the further adventures of Zena [sic]: Warrior Princes and Ash in the Dynamite series Zena vs. Army of Darkness. Happy New Year!

Reimagined 'Galactica' a fantastic voyage | Philadelphia Daily News | 07/07/2008

bsg With the end of the year closing in quickly, here's a very flattering look back at my BATTLESTAR GALACTICA: SEASON ZERO series in the Philadelphia Daily News.

Reimagined 'Galactica' a fantastic voyage | Philadelphia Daily News | 07/07/2008

By JEROME MAIDA
For the Daily News

With a show as critically acclaimed, complex and well-acted as the reimagined "Battlestar Galactica," it would be a challenge for anyone to come up with stories that flesh out the mythology of the show and have the characters ring true. Yet Dynamite has met that challenge time and time again the past few years with various "BSG" titles.

However, with their "Battlestar Galactica Season Zero" series, Dynamite has accepted the daunting task of taking an exceptional ensemble of characters, placing them two years before the Cylon decimation of the colonies launched their adventures on the small screen and dealing with the events leading up to that devastating, watershed moment.

Fittingly, the series opened with a celebratory scene in which Commander Bill Adama and Colonel Saul Tigh share food, drink and laughter with their respective spouses, Carolanne and Ellen. All involved feel that being assigned to the Galactica is a polite road to retirement and it will be smooth sailing the rest of the way. That belief is reinforced in the TV miniseries that first brought these characters into our homes.
